Our storm hardening efforts are improving the reliability and resiliency of some of the most vulnerable sections of our electric distribution system. We are:
- Burying approximately 600 miles of electric distribution facilities.
- Installing approximately 1,500 reclosers to enhance fault locating, isolation and service restoration capabilities.
- Implementing distribution automation on 300 distribution circuits.
Undergrounding will help prevent outages that are caused by fallen trees and tree limbs, while sectionalizing and automating the electric distribution system will help mitigate outages by isolating faults and reconfiguring the system to restore power more quickly. We expect the storm hardening efforts to reduce:
- Total restoration times due to severe weather by 20%-25%.
- Minutes of customer interruption by approximately 80% in project areas where distribution lines are undergrounded and distribution automation is deployed.
- Line clearance maintenance costs and outages due to fallen trees and tree limbs.
