Reliability projects

We know how much you rely on us to power your day — from morning routines and family time, to work and everything in between. That’s why we’re investing in a stronger, more resilient energy system. We are doing this by updating our aging electric infrastructure, burying power lines and strengthening our system against severe weather.

We are improving reliability by:

  • Rebuilding aging overhead lines and replacing them with stronger wires, poles and associated support structures
  • Replacing underground cables that are at end of life with cables that are more resistant to failures
  • Burying 60 to 80 miles of overhead conductors per year over the next five to 10 years as part of the storm hardening efforts
  • Installing additional remote sensing and circuit protection devices as part of the storm hardening efforts — improving safety and restoration speed

Grid technology

Smart switches can automatically isolate the affected section of the system and quickly reroute power to restore service for customers. More than 700 smart switches monitor our electric grid around the clock for signs of trouble. So far in 2026, smart switches and other grid technology have helped customers avoid more than 2.7 million minutes of outage time.
