Google Nest users: If using the original Nest app, you’ll need to migrate to Google Home before enrolling.

Don’t have a smart thermostat?

Buy from Focus on Energy, national and local retailers, or HVAC contractors.
Rebates from Focus on Energy are available for some brands.


How it works

  • In exchange for bill credits, you allow us to make small, temporary temperature adjustments to your enrolled thermostat to reduce demand on the electric system at critical times.
  • Adjustments are limited to 4 degrees or less and last no more than four hours.
  • Events are called on weekdays from June through September, with most events happening between 1 to 7 p.m. There will be no more than 20 events called per summer season. Weekends and Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day are excluded.
  • You will be notified in advance through a message on your enrolled smart thermostat or in your web and mobile app.
  • At the end of an event, the thermostat will return to its prior setting.
  • You retain control and can override automatic adjustments at any time.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for Smart Thermostat Rewards, you must:

  1. Be a We Energies residential electric customer (rate Rg1 or Rg2).
  2. Have electric service in your name.
  3. Use a qualified smart thermostat that’s connected to Wi-Fi.
  4. Agree to brief thermostat adjustments during high-demand periods.
  5. Have your account in good standing (no late payments or disconnections in the past 12 months).
