We are sincerely sorry for your loss. We understand this is a difficult time and are here to help.
To make the process of transferring or closing an account as easy as possible, please review the information below and then take appropriate steps to manage the account.
What to know
To avoid service interruption
If your deceased loved one was the primary account holder, service will need to be transferred:
- We will start service with a new account number in the new customer’s name (typically the surviving spouse or account executor). The existing account will be closed automatically when the new account is established.
- If the account was enrolled in any payment or billing options, such as Automatic Payment or Budget Billing, those will need to be reestablished on the new account.
- If there is an outstanding balance on the account, we’ll discuss the options available to you.
To stop service
- Call us to stop service and close the account. If there is an outstanding balance on the account, we will generate a final bill and discuss the options available to you.
Account management options
Transfer or stop service: Call 24-hour Customer Service at 800-242-9137 and have the customer’s account number handy to begin the transition or stop service process.
Transfer service online: Start energy service in your name and reestablish any preferred payment and billing options. We still may need to contact you to complete this process.
