As an active member of our communities, we work with many organizations that protect and enhance our urban forests. Our forestry personnel work with residents, contractors, organizations and municipalities on tree care and on protecting trees during our trimming and construction activities. We educate the public on selecting the right tree for the right place, planting and working safely around utility facilities, and we support the following organizations:
Wisconsin Arborist Association (WAA)
WAA is a chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture dedicated to improving the knowledge and quality of the arboriculture profession. Our involvement includes participation on the chapter’s executive board.
In 2006, we received the chapter’s Gold Leaf Award along with the city of Whitewater and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for creating an educational treeway at Whitewater High School. Signs identify species, growth characteristics and planting recommendations.
In 2005, we received the chapter’s Gold Leaf Award along with the city of Waukesha for outstanding Arbor Day activities.
Tree Line USA Utility
In 2008, we were recognized for the 10th straight year by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The award recognizes utilities that meet three requirements:
- A program of quality tree care.
- Annual employee training in quality tree-care practices.
- Tree planting and public education programs.
International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)
ISA is a worldwide professional organization dedicated to fostering a greater appreciation for trees and to promoting research, technology and professional arboriculture practice.
Utility Arborist Association (UAA)
UAA is an organization that promotes utility arborist networking and information sharing.
Trees For Tomorrow (TFT)
TFT is a natural resource specialty school that teaches conservation values and demonstrates benefits of contemporary resource management to elementary, middle and high school students. Our support of this organization began in 1951.
Wisconsin Utilities Association’s Right-of-Way Maintenance Committee
This organization helps utilities share experiences and new development and practices in plant growth related to electric power lines.
Municipal Forestry Organizations
We Energies also participates in various municipal forestry organizations throughout our service area.
