High-Energy Player of the Year

Milwaukee Brewers fans selected Nyjer Morgan as the team’s High-Energy Player of the Year for 2011, as the player who best personifies the characteristics of hard work and an aggressive approach to playing the game. The award was presented to Morgan by We Energies Chairman, President and CEO Gale Klappa during an on-field ceremony prior to the Sept. 23 game against the Florida Marlins.

In addition to Morgan, Klappa presented a duplicate award to Morgan’s alter ego, identified by his “name on the field” or “gentleman’s name” of Tony Plush. Morgan often conducts post-game interviews and engages in social media in the character of “T Plush.”

The Brewers and We Energies also announced that Rebecca Fritsche of West Bend was chosen as the “Grand Slam Winner” in the contest. Fritsche voted for the award online at brewers.com and had her name selected in a drawing. Fritsche will receive a VIP pre-game experience, Field Infield Diamond Box tickets for six and will participate in a pre-game ceremony.

Fifty-three fans who voted online also won four Loge Outfield tickets each for a Brewers home game this season.

Highlights of Morgan’s break-out season include a single-season career high in extra-base hits and home runs, a career-high 12-game hitting streak, a career-high 4 RBIs in a single game, and his first career walk-off hit – with a two-out, ninth-inning double to beat the New York Mets on June 8.

Previous winners of the award include:
Rickie Weeks (2010)
Craig Counsell (2009)
Ryan Braun (2008)
Prince Fielder (2007)
Bill Hall (2006)
