Economic health focus area
Our foundation supports programs that stimulate economic growth and development of the communities in which we live, work and do business. We believe strengthening the region’s economic base is critical to grow and retain world-class businesses and talent, create high-value employment and a sustainable quality of life.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Wisconsin
Offering safe and positive places for youth to learn and grow, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wisconsin strive to enable young people to reach their potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Our foundation has supported this mission by sponsoring Boys and Girls Club events and programs throughout our service territory. We have sponsored the Decade of Hope Campaign, a 10-year strategic plan that will allow the Boys and Girls Clubs to serve more than 40,000 youth from Milwaukee’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods with effective, outcome-based programming; the Sista Pride Program, a Milwaukee-based program created to help teenage girls succeed; the Kenosha Capital Campaign dedicated to building a new center for after-school and weekend activities along with programs and activities for families and seniors; and the Fox Valley Be Great building expansion project.
With support from our foundation, Goodwill Industries has been able to invest in Workforce Connection Centers, a natural extension of Goodwill's mission to provide training, employment and supportive services for people with disadvantages or other employment barriers who seek greater independence. These centers are designed to assist with self-directed job searches and employment-related activities. Center resources range from resume writing to onsite interviewing and access to technology.
Milwaukee Public Library Foundation
The Milwaukee Public Library Foundation seeks to provide essential support to the Milwaukee Public Library through private contributions for books, materials, programs and facilities to ensure a great library that is responsive to community needs. Our foundation has contributed to the purchase of new books and supported the library’s summer reading program. The library attributes sponsorships such as ours as a key factor in providing the depth and variety of free programs it offers to children and families across the city.
YMCA responds to critical social needs. Our foundation supports YMCA’s mission and has contributed to YMCAs in the We Energies service territory. Foundation funding has supported the Mentoring Program, where employees volunteer as mentors to provide the crucial one-on-one interaction that can make the difference in a young person’s chance for success; the Black Achievers Program geared toward helping young African Americans develop a positive sense of self and to set high education and career goals by providing mentoring opportunities with African American professionals; and the Strong Kids campaigns aimed at ensuring that no child or family is turned away from life-enhancing YMCA programs because of the inability to pay. Many of our employees are active volunteers in these and other programs.
The United Way helps thousands through programs and initiatives designed to break the cycle of poverty. Whether individuals are being mentored, taught in a job-training program, or helped to secure the basic needs of food and shelter, the United Way focuses on results that change lives. Our foundation contributes to United Way organizations across our service area and our company also conducts a workplace giving campaign.
