Connection
Make sure you connect to We Energies Water Services safely, efficiently and legally. We offer information for both you and your plumber so that transitioning to our system is easy.

  • Application. Complete and send the service application form to provide us with the data needed to calculate meter size. Meter size impacts pressure and how much you pay for water. If your meter is too small, you may not have enough pressure, or you may experience noise and other problems. If your meter is too large, your quarterly water charges will be more than necessary. Service Application Form

  • Connection. By law, only We Energies Water Services employees are allowed to connect you to our water main. We install a water valve at your property line that your plumber uses to test your plumbing. Your plumber can turn this valve on for no more than two hours to test the building piping for leaks. Then it must be turned off. Failure to follow this procedure could result in fines and/or criminal water theft charges.Your plumber should install valves on both sides of the meter, which must be left off until the meter has passed the plumbing inspection. Then, your plumber can turn on all primary water valves (curb stop, meter inlet and outlet). Plumbing Guidelines

  • Restoration. In most cases, we complete initial lawn restoration within two weeks of working in the public right-of-way. Final restoration is completed before project completion.

Meter Reading
We use automated meter reading, so we do not need access to your house for readings.

Water Softeners
Lake Michigan water is much softer than ground water. The hardness level drops from between 30-20 grains of hardness to about 7 grains of hardness. Most people using water at a 7-grain level do not use a water softener. However, using a water softener is a matter of personal preference.

  • If you decide to keep your water softener, it should be adjusted to the new hardness level.
  • If you are not familiar with adjusting your water softener, contact a water softener dealer or your appliance’s manufacturer.
  • If you no longer want to use your water softener, contact a dealer to find the best way to dispose of it.
