The outside switch is a radio-controlled switch housed in a small plastic box. The switch is mounted at no cost to you on the outside of the house near the air conditioner (AC) compressor. We control the compressor by a radio signal. Your switch is programmed to respond only to the cycling option you selected.
When cycling begins, we send out a signal that activates a timer and opens up a relay connected to your AC low-voltage circuit. When the switch opens, it interrupts the signal from the thermostat in your house that tells the AC to operate. While the switch is open, your AC fan continues to run, but your compressor stops.
This is similar to when your thermostat is set higher than the temperature in your house. The timer in the device keeps the relay open for the amount of time based on the program option you selected. When the time expires, the circuit closes, and your AC resumes operation.
The lights on the switch indicate what the switch is doing. We have used a few different models of AC control switches.
