The biomass fuel will consist of forest residue (tree tops and branches left after timber-logging operations), wood manufacturing residue (shavings and sawdust from paper mills or sawmills), and clean waste wood from tree services. We will not use municipal solid waste, painted/treated or contaminated wood products, tires or animal waste.
It has been determined that there is an adequate and sustainable supply of fuel for the proposed facility. We will use Domtar’s expertise and supply chain to purchase the fuel. Domtar is committed to ensuring that forest management practices meet the standards of internationally recognized, third-party verified forest certification programs such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and the Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI). Domtar also will require all biomass suppliers to follow Wisconsin’s Woody Biomass Harvesting Guidelines or other applicable biomass harvesting plans, Best Management Practices for Water Quality, and Wisconsin’s Forest Management Guidelines. Domtar will perform random audits of suppliers to ensure harvesting guidelines are followed and sustainable forestry practices are adhered to.
