Power line emergencies

Knowing what to do if you or someone else comes in contact with a power line is critical.

If a co-worker comes in contact with a power line:

  • Call 911 and call us at (800) 662-4PWR (4797) immediately.
  • Do not try to rescue the person. By touching them or the equipment they’re in or working with, you may be shocked.
  • Stay away from the site until rescue workers arrive and the power is shut off.

If you come in contact with a power line:

  • Have some one call 911 and call us at (800) 662-4PWR (4797) immediately.
  • Stay on the equipment until help arrives.
  • Warn others to stay away.

If you must get off the equipment due to fire or other danger, jump clear and land far enough away from the equipment that you do not touch the equipment and the ground at the same time. Land with your feet together and shuffle away, keeping your feet together and on the ground.
