Before you work

Review the site carefully and know the location of all overhead power lines and aboveground equipment.

Make sure there is a safety barrier between overhead lines and workers and their equipment. At a minimum, stay 10 feet away from high-voltage lines. Power lines with more than 50,000 volts require more than 10 feet.

Before working near power lines, contact your locating service to determine the voltage and safe work distances, and to find out if special safety arrangements are required.
